Police in Palm Beach County, Florida, have revealed the fate of a man who has been missing for 22 years. His body was found using Google Maps and GPS after he drowned in a pool.

The police identified the missing man as belonging to William Molt, who has been missing since November 7, 1997, when he was driving towards his fiancé's home, before losing control and falling into a large pond.

An internet user accidentally noticed a spot in the pond waters of his home in August, when he was exploring a place in Wellington, Florida, to buy a property.

The user realized with the help of Google maps on satellites that the spot is a car submerged in the water, and contacted a resident of the neighborhood to use his drone to confirm the presence of a car in the place, then informed the police who came and took the car to discover the skeleton of the missing man in the driver's place.

According to Charlie, a database of unresolved cases in the United States, the car has been featured on Google Earth's satellite imagery since 2007, but it appears to have been noticed until August.
