“It seems to me very significant the initiative of the Greeks of Tauris to use in the name of our republic, along with the existing historical addition, which would sound like this: Republic of Crimea - Tauris. In Russia, in a number of constituent entities of the Federation, after the new state of the Russian Federation was formed, this applies, ”he said.
As Muradov noted, Yakutia (Sakha), North Ossetia (Alania) and “a number of other entities” use the historical part along with the established name.
According to him, this issue concerns the entire public of the republic, and if it supports this idea, then the initiative will be able to reach the level of discussion in the State Council of Crimea and other authorities.
The publication clarifies that earlier the head of the national-cultural autonomy of the Greeks of Crimea “Tauris” Ivan Shonus came up with the corresponding initiative.
Shonus in a comment by RIA Novosti noted that the society in Crimea is not yet ready to give the republic an additional name “Tauris”.
According to him, historians were included in the discussion of the initiative.
“This is not the topic of tomorrow, because society is not yet ready. Most opinions need to be taken into account, I don’t want to offend anyone either, ”he said.
Earlier it was reported that the Greek delegation will arrive in Crimea on September 15.
