So far this year, Sweden has had a taste for unusually much lightning and thunder. According to statistics from SMHI, which TV4 News has taken note of, more than 210,000 flash downloads have been registered until September this year.

This can be compared to 2018 when 177 196 flashes were registered or 2017 when the number of flash downloads was 34,931.

"This summer we have had very warm, humid air over the country and it is an important condition for the thunderstorm," Erik Engström, climatologist at SMHI, told TV4.

During the summer, it is mainly the southern part of Sweden that has been most affected, which, according to Erik Engström, is because it is more common with warm air in the south, which increases the probability of thunderstorms.
