JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Israeli authorities have turned Jordanian prisoner Abdel Rahman Merhi, 29, into administrative detention for four months, nearly a week after Jordan protested his detention.

The Israeli occupation forces arrested Marei - born in the city of Zarqa - on the second of this month while going to attend the wedding of a relative in the West Bank through the Karama crossing, according to the Palestinian Prisoner Club.

The Jordanian Foreign Ministry summoned the Israeli ambassador in Amman on Tuesday and demanded the immediate release of Mari and his mother, who was detained with him.

He has been suffering from brain cancer since 2010 and has undergone several surgeries in recent years.
