Fighting fronts in the south and south-east of the Libyan capital Tripoli are witnessing a cautious calm, after a day of clashes in which the government of national reconciliation forces advanced in the axes of Khallet al-Furjan and Ain Zara.

The forces of retired Major General Khalifa Hifter announced the killing of three of its most prominent leaders in the bombing carried out by a plane to the forces of the government of reconciliation.

The Wefaq government said on its official Facebook page that Mitiga airport, near the capital, had been hit by rockets and air strikes two weeks after it was closed due to repeated attacks. Tripoli accuses Hifter's forces of responsibility for yesterday's attack and previous attacks on the airport.

Mitiga was the only airport operating in Tripoli before being hit by rocket fire that injured four civilians, including three pilgrims returning from Mecca. The capital authorities diverted flights to Misrata airport, 200 kilometers east of Tripoli.

The killing of leaders
On the other hand, the military media of Hifter forces announced on Friday the death of three of the most prominent military commanders by air strikes of the Wefaq government forces.A military source said that among the dead was the commander of the ninth brigade of Tarhuna, Colonel Abdul-Wahab al-Maqri, whose car was targeted by shelling from a drone.

Through its official Facebook page, Hifter's forces called Colonel Abdel Wahab al-Maqri, Capt. Mohsen al-Kani of the supporting force, and soldier Abdul-Azim al-Kani.

Earlier on Friday, al-Wefaq forces announced the destruction of Hifter's main operating room at the Jafra air base (central), and the killing of six foreign officers who were there.

Government forces of the National Accord have made field progress on Hifter's forces in the fighting axes south of the capital Tripoli.

Since the fall of Muammar Gaddafi's regime in 2011, Libya has been struggling for legitimacy and power, and is currently centered between the internationally-recognized reconciliation government and Hifter, who controls the east of the country.
