European signatories to the nuclear deal with Iran have expressed deep concern over what they described as Tehran's violations of the agreement.

In the first statement since the IAEA reported this week, European countries called on Tehran to reverse what it called Iranian activities that violate Tehran's obligations and to cooperate with the IAEA.

"The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) confirmed in its September 8 report that sophisticated centrifuges have been installed at Natanz or are being installed. We are deeply concerned about these activities," European powers said on Iran.

The European position came a day after US President Donald Trump said Iran was looking forward to a meeting with the Americans. In previous comments, Trump had hinted that sanctions could be partially lifted.

Trump said on Friday that Iran was seeking arrangements for a summit meeting between him and Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, on the sidelines of the next UN General Assembly.

Some media have already reported that Trump and Rouhani will hold a bilateral meeting at the upcoming UN General Assembly in New York, but the Iranian side has ruled out the possibility, given the continued US sanctions on Tehran.
