This Saturday is highlighted by a host of events. Fire drill, helicopter round-trip, and Missing Peoples drone viewing are just a few of the many program points.

Copenhagen

The story began as a relief effort where the state accounted for most of the construction cost. On September 9, 1936, the airport was inaugurated and about 20,000 people must have been present, according to an article in Norrköping's newspapers 2004.

Two years later, regular traffic began with Dutch KLM flying to Stockholm, Malmö and Copenhagen. The Civil Aviation Administration took care of operations in the early 1940s. And so it remained until 2006 when Norrköping Municipality took over the airport.

Over the years, different lines have been operated. Most often with Copenhagen as the gateway to the big world. At the beginning of the 2000s, approximately 120,000 passengers flew to and from Norrköping. SAS operated the line between 1964 and 2002.

Charter

The last regular line against the continent was BMI's to and from Munich, which was closed at the beginning of the year. In summer there are regular flights to Visby. However, charter traffic still exists along with ambulance, fire and other commercial aircraft.

- We are the country's fourth largest charter airport with over 100,000 passengers a year. And the charter development is positive with an increase of 10 percent in recent years, says Ola Matsson, CEO of Norrköping airport.

"Tough industry"

At present, they are looking for an airline to resume regular flights. The idea is that Karlstad and Norrköping should have routes with a stopover in Jönköping and for Norrköping's final station in Copenhagen.

- It will be cheaper to Copenhagen. Then you can, for example, use turboprop planes and maintain long-term profitability. But it is a tough business for smaller airlines.

Paradigm shift with electric aircraft

Ola Matsson believes that a paradigm shift is underway in the aviation industry.

- In four years, the company Heart Aerospace has an electric aircraft ready for certification. And in 2025 it will be manufactured in series.

As for the current "flight comb", he says:

- One should work on the major environmental issues instead, such as coal power. Aviation will, of course, work on its part, but in Sweden there is far too much focus on the 3 per cent of carbon dioxide emissions that aviation represents.
