Eight years ago at this time, Sara was with the class on a school escape. The last year of primary school had just started. In the evening it was daytime food and a shy girl sat down next to the fireplace when everything changed in an instant. The wood was soaked with red liquor.

- When we lit our camp fire to eat in the evening, it exploded. I sat down a little and got the whole fire cascade over me, ”says Sara Rasmusson.

Serious burns

Although she instinctively quickly threw herself back and a friend put on a sweater to protect her face, Sara suffered severe burns on large parts of her body.

- I was sent to Linköping University Hospital where I lay for six to seven weeks. I through went through several surgeries and transplants to try to save the skin that was damaged.

Positive attitude

Despite the tough journey back to a daily life, the memories from the hospital are bright like this in the rear view mirror. Sara tells of many laughs from that time and she is overwhelmed by all the support loved ones and loved ones helped. A positive attitude has always been the most important goal.

- I think if you turn it into a positive thing and look ahead and see what you can get out of it, it's easier to get through, says Sara.

Want to tell more

Today, together with a companion, she runs a dog daycare in Kumla, works at a nightclub and at a lunch restaurant. This weekend she lectures in Örebro for 80 entrepreneurs who have a background in Young Entrepreneurs. The goal is to reach more people with lectures.

- I have absolutely no problems talking about my journey. That's part of me. It is not my injuries that show who I am, but I am me and this is what I have been through. I think it's good to be open and show that it's okay to talk about your mental illness and things that have been tough and show that you could turn it into something positive, says Sara Rasmusson.
