Zakharova spoke about the request to Interpol on the situation with Smolenkov

This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.

“A Russian citizen disappeared into the territory of a foreign state with his whole family,” she said.

Zakharova noted that a criminal case was opened on this fact.

"Two years later, the American media throw stuff that it is located in the United States," she added.

At the same time, Zakharova emphasized that this information requires verification.

“And in this regard, Washington was asked by Interpol regarding the fact of the loss of a Russian citizen and his presence in the United States of America,” Zakharova said.

She also noted that the entire CNN story about Smolenkov is a classic propaganda and is associated with the start of the US election campaign.

Earlier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Sergey Ryabkov said that Moscow considers speculation in the story of Oleg Smolenkov as speculation.

A spokesman for Russian President Dmitry Peskov said that Smolenkov worked in the Kremlin’s administration, but was fired several years ago.
