  • Venezuela. The Prosecutor's Office supports the extradition of Chavista Hugo 'el Pollo' Carvajal to the United States

The former head of the Venezuelan Military Intelligence, Hugo Carvajal, has requested this Thursday before the National Court that the request for extradition from the United States be rejected , accusing him of introducing drugs into the country in collaboration with the FARC's Colombian guerrillas . The former high command of Hugo Chavez, imprisoned in Estremera prison, maintains through his lawyers that the request of the American authorities is full of formal defects , is illegal, and denies the accusations that are poured against him.

As he argues through the writings of his lawyers Ismael Moreno and Elyson de Souza, "Carvajal is being claimed not for what he has done but for what he knows, with the clear intention of destabilizing a regime ." He also reminds the National Court "that he has been a regular collaborator of the Spanish secret services" and points out that when he arrived in Madrid on March 18 "upon the arrival of the flight two members of the CNI, one of them with the position of chief of Operations and the other with specific functions in the Congress of Deputies went to the door of the plane and facilitated his access and transferred him in a camouflage vehicle to his family home in Madrid. " All this, he says, "through a legitimate passport with a different identity that is granted to certain personalities for security reasons ."

Therefore, Carvajal does not understand that weeks later, on April 12, he was arrested by the National Court. It also questions that the Prosecutor's Office that has intervened in its case is the Drug Enforcement and not that of the National Court, "which is the competent one." At the same time, he considers that the documentation sent by the United States "violates the extradition requirements and principles . Thus, Carvajal's lawyers add that" none of the events occur in the United States "and accuse the American authorities of using against the former head of the Military Intelligence a "narrative lightness" that leads them to accuse him of " collaborating with the FARC without indicating a date or a single place ."

The United States attributes to Carvajal, among other episodes, the attempt to introduce a plane with 5.6 tons of cocaine into the country that had to land due to mechanical problems in Mexico.
