The government recently agreed with the Center Party and the Liberals to donate 100 million a year to the country's women's shelters until 2022. At the same time, financially pressured municipalities, such as Ljungby, are withdrawing their contribution of SEK 200,000 to the Märta women's shelter.

- The money we donate will go towards strengthening women's business and is not for municipalities to be able to withdraw their contributions, says Åsa Lindhagen (MP).

Saved the municipality's economy

Last summer, Bo Ederström (M), chairman of the Social Committee, told SVT Nyheter Småland that they had to withdraw the contribution to the women's shelter to save the municipality's finances and that the Märta women's shelter had a surplus of almost half a million kronor.

Jessica Almrot, who chairs the women's fair Märta in Ljungby, is disappointed that the municipality is withdrawing its annual contribution to the business.

- It is very sad if we have to refuse to women because of lack of space and poor economy, she says.
