“Since 1956, a lot of time has passed. We consider it necessary to conclude today not just a peace treaty, signed after the end of the war, but a document reflecting the current level of relations between Russia and Japan and, most importantly, guidelines for their further development, ”Lavrov said in an interview with Trud newspaper.

According to him, this implies an improvement in the interaction of Moscow and Tokyo in all areas to create conditions for resolving bilateral problems.

“We are ready to continue joint painstaking work to bring relations to a qualitatively new level. We always proceed from the fact that a possible solution to the peace treaty problem should be supported and adopted by the peoples of both countries, ”the Russian Foreign Minister emphasized.

Earlier, the Kremlin recognized that Russia and Japan had not yet reached a solution to a number of important problems.

At the same time, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe during the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok called on Russian leader Vladimir Putin to do everything to sign a peace treaty.
