It's about five men from several countries - France, the UK, the US and Australia - who are suspected to be part of a major smuggling operation, reports the BBC and The Independent, among others.

Found hidden on an island

Two of the men were found hidden on an island in Western Australia last week after their yacht crashed. When arrested, the police found illegal drugs worth $ 688,000, equivalent to more than SEK 6.6 million.

"The size and character of the seizure clearly indicates that a criminal network is involved," says Brad Royce, assistant police chief of the police in Western Australia, writes The Independent.

Would accommodate - brought seals

The fact that the police managed to arrest the men at all is partly due to a seal that lay on the island. The two men traveling on the yacht made their way ashore on the island with the help of an inflatable dinghy, according to the BBC. Once there, they should have hidden cocaine, extacy and methamphetamine under some seagrass. When the men realized they had been discovered, they tried to flee the island - and were met by a large seal.

"They raised the seals, they jumped up with their big chest and rotten them," Damien Healy, deputy commander at a Geraldton maritime rescue company, tells ABC Radio, the BBC writes.

Healy believes that the men had only two choices: to try to get past the seal, or to be arrested. They chose alternative number two and the police managed to arrest the two men on the island. The three other suspects were arrested in Perth on Wednesday, in connection with the investigation.

During the fall, trials are awaiting all five men, who remain in custody.
