“By a majority of votes it was decided to transfer the monument to a worthy place, to one of the museums, and to hold a competition for the creation of a new monument to the heroes-liberators of Prague in 1945,” RIA Novosti quoted the head of the district.

On August 22, unidentified persons desecrated the monument to Konev, writing an insult on it with paint.

It was reported that authorities are considering the possibility of sending the monument to Russia or transferring it to a private collection for storage.

Czech President Milos Zeman, in turn, called for the preservation of the monument to Konev in Prague.

The monument to the Marshal of the USSR was installed in the Czech capital in 1980.

He was repeatedly targeted by vandals. So, in the spring of 2018, unknown persons doused the monument with pink paint, and in the fall of 2017, vandals wrote several dates on the monument.
