March 23, 2019The Barberini station of Line A of the Rome underground was closed by Atac after provisions of the judicial authority. The seizure would be linked to the recent breakdown on one of the escalators. On Thursday the Barberini stop was closed for several hours due to the collapse of a step on an escalator.

Also closed metro station Spagna for further checks
Following the decision of the judicial authority that ordered the seizure of the Barberini station, the person responsible for the operation of the Spanish transfer systems decided to prevent the use of escalators, which are of the same type as those present at Barberini, at order to carry out further checks. This made it necessary to close the station, which does not have other access roads to the quay. This was announced by the ATAC, which "activated the necessary surface replacement services to limit the inconveniences, for which the company apologizes".

The revocation of the maintenance contract
In the meantime, at the end of the preliminary investigation procedure which had been initiated by the company that managed the plant maintenance, Atac believes that "there are serious and irrefutable reasons for the termination of the contract, which will be notified to the supplier. will identify in the shortest possible time the solutions useful to guarantee the reopening of the stations and the continuity and improvement of the maintenance activities ".
