Teachers' Federation: "Very disturbing to have so few examined"

- It is worrying that there are so few who are educated as teachers, says Gunilla Skogsmo, chair of the Teachers' National Association in Eskilstuna.

In the subject teacher program, students are trained as high school and high school teachers with competence in two subjects. Earlier this week SVT was able to tell you that the throughput on the program is low. In 2018, 17 of the 45 who started education at Mälardalen University were examined.

"Many people do not understand how tough the program is," says Pia Pia Lindberg, academic director at Mälardalen University.

In Sörmland, 64 per cent of primary school teachers and 72 per cent of upper secondary school teachers are eligible, and the county thus belongs to those with the lowest qualifications in the country, according to statistics from the National Agency for Education. For those who are educated as subject teachers, the job prospects are good, but still few people apply and complete the program.
