Today, the political parties will meet again to discuss measures against serious organized crime. It is positive that both Parliament and the government now want to gather energy.

But it is important to keep your head cool and not make hasty decisions on issues that require long-term efforts.

Several serious and noteworthy events have - rightly - caused a stir recently. It has become clear to a wider public that the greatly increased number of shootings in recent years also affects people who are outside the criminal conflicts.

This also applies to the recurring blasts, which have also increased substantially. The development is serious. But it comes as no surprise.

Researchers have previously warned that if nothing is done , the situation will escalate. Yet, it has been time for politicians to realize that they must jointly seek solutions to the problems we face.

We welcome the fact that the politicians will now meet again to discuss joint measures against serious organized crime. Here it is important to make well-balanced decisions on issues that require long-term solutions.

Therefore, we urge our politicians to listen to the profession, its knowledge and experience before making important decisions.

In the political debate, a number of measures have been put forward to reverse the negative development.

Issues about Crown witnesses, anonymous witnesses and visitation zones may well be necessary tools for the police in their work against gang crime and organized crime.

But the measures can also have negative consequences for police officers working in vulnerable areas by making the important long-term relationship-creating work difficult. Such calculations must always be taken into account.

The fact that the political system has come to an awakening in terms of investments in the Police Authority and the Police Corps is welcomed.

To prevent us from getting into the same situation again , where politics is reacting too slowly, the Police Union urges the Riksdag and the government to start working longer term. They must move away from the strong casts and fast-paced play that largely characterize today's criminal policy.

When the parties now meet to discuss measures against serious organized crime, they need to do so on the basis of sound analyzes of both the present situation, the outside world and the future. They also need to analyze the consequences of different decisions.

In order to consolidate such a working method, we propose that the government urgently appoint a police commission for increased law enforcement capabilities - with today's defense committee as a role model.

There is a need for a lasting way of working where our politicians can jointly and in a constructive spirit make the absolutely necessary decisions necessary to give the Swedish police and other judicial systems correct and long-term conditions.

It would strengthen the law enforcement capacity of society and increase people's security, both today and in the future.
