U.S. President Donald Trump was considering mitigating sanctions on Iran, but it sparked a sharp backlash from John Bolton, who served as national security adviser. It is reported by Bloomberg, citing sources.

According to the agency, Trump was exploring the option of easing the sanctions regime to coordinate a meeting with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

It is noted that US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin on Monday, September 9, told the president that he supported the easing of sanctions as a way to resume negotiations with Iran. Later that day, Trump decided to dismiss Bolton.

The agency also informs that the White House has already begun to work out a possible meeting in New York of the leaders of the United States and Iran.

On September 10, Trump announced that he had dismissed Bolton.

Tehran said that now the American administration will have "fewer obstacles to understanding Iranian realities."
