  • Negotiation: Pablo Iglesias believes that Pedro Sánchez will finally turn the coalition

Second encounter, second failure. The possibility of an agreement between the PSOE and the United We can manage to avoid a repetition of the general elections on November 10 wrecked again. The understanding between the two parties was again aggravated in the composition of the Government, in the PSOE's refusal to purple ministers and in the rejection of Pablo Iglesias to any other pact that does not go through this. Almost 4 hours sitting around a table so as not to leave this maze.

The meeting began a few minutes after 11 am in Congress, without any change in two antagonistic positions and with leaders of the two parties focused on transmitting their position in the media and criticizing the contrary.

Prior to the appointment, the acting Vice President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, at the head of the negotiation, together with the vice secretary of the PSOE and parliamentary spokeswoman, Adriana Lastra, and the Minister of Finance, María Jesús Montero, already pointed out on Tele 5 that the The position of Podemos was "inflexible" and that "from the first moment he wants a government of two involved in one, where the vice presidency of Podemos can take over his ministries." This would mean, he said, leading Spain to "in three months have no government."

In United We considered this meeting as "crucial", because his expectation was that he had to "get into the matter". However, the confidence placed in it was scarce, they did not grant much room for understanding. While the purple negotiating team was with the Socialists, Pablo Iglesias enjoyed the Argentina-Serbia World Cup basketball game. "I miss Ginobili but how nice Argentina plays and what a wonder Scola follows," he wrote on social media. Almost at the same time, Alberto Garzón, leader of IU, in a television interview was "moderate pessimist", saw little room for agreement and envisioned as unlikely an upcoming investiture.

Although within the United We group there are different positions and sensitivities, with sectors such as IU or the commons most likely to broaden horizons beyond the coalition, Iglesias has managed to impose a closing of ranks, at least today, in the requirement of a co-government. The purple leader, in addition, returns to the bases of his party to strengthen his political position, explaining that the consultation he made to the formation confirmed that the position is to support a coalition government. It happens that those same bases voted for a "no veto" co-government and Iglesias accepted the one imposed by Sánchez.
