Britain's Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been pushing for a tough Brexit line and pledged to resign on October 31, whether or not there is an agreement. But many people believe that the controversial political strategist Dominic Cummings is the real brain behind the decisions.

- Former Finance Minister Kenneth Clarke and many others have said that it is Cummings who governs the country. When those who are so close to power say so, there is something in it, says James Savage, founder and CEO of the English-language newspaper The Local in SVT Morgonstudion.

Annoyed many

Dominic Cummings has long been a controversial figure in political contexts. He has held several roles as a strategist and advisor in the Conservative Tory party, including Minister of Education Michael Gove. But he is not a member of the party, which has angered many.

"He has had no respect for the members of the party and called them all sorts of different things, so he has not made friends with people," says James Savage.

"Maybe smarter than everyone else"

Dominic Cummings was behind the "Vote Leave" campaign, which in 2016 propagated hard for the UK to leave the EU, and according to Savage, his main goal is still to implement Brexit. He does something by influencing Boris Johnson backstage.

- But how well has it worked for Boris Johson? He has lost his majority and he gets no new election. Either Cummings is smarter than everyone else, or he is not as smart as he thinks.
