2018 was a milestone for campsites around the country, with a total occupancy of 16 million guest nights according to Svensk Camping. At Årjängs camping, 80 percent of the visitors are Norwegians.

- Rumor is spreading among those who have been here. Then I think that the price situation on the Swedish krona and maybe a little bit of combing also means that more people choose camping more closely, says Amanda Thorell, site manager at Årjängs camping.

This summer, occupancy increased by ten percent and now has plans to expand to next summer.

Lyxcamping

But it is not only traditional tents, motorhomes and cottages that apply to campers in Sweden, but also a more luxurious variety of accommodation, so-called glamping.

Martin Juhos at SCR, Svensk Camping's industry organization, believes that the concept has been around for a couple of years and that it will increase.

- Guests are demanding it and glamping is growing in Europe. It is not a volume product in Sweden, but glamping homes are booked early, he says.

Glamping is something that Sommarvik has tested this year, and the plan is to expand operations in the coming summer.
