“The United States welcomes the news of the release of 35 Ukrainians held by Russia in exchange for 35 prisoners held by Ukraine,” the statement said on the State Department website.
It is noted that US authorities would like to see signs of a more active dialogue between Russia and Ukraine.
“The President of (Ukraine, Vladimir) Zelensky clearly stated his commitment to a diplomatic solution to the conflict, incited by Russia in eastern Ukraine. We support the efforts of President Zelensky and urge Russia to fulfill all its obligations undertaken by it in the framework of the Minsk agreements, ”the statement said.
On September 7, an exchange of held persons took place between Russia and Ukraine according to the “35 for 35” formula. NATO positively assessed the exchange of retained persons between Russia and Ukraine, calling it a step in the right direction.
