In the Bahamas, many inhabitants of the islands of Grand Bahama and Abaco still hope to be evacuated.

With our special correspondent in the Bahamas, Domitille Piron

Young Keisha arrived in Nassau by boat on Friday, September 6th with her 4 year old daughter. With their family, nine children and four adults, they spent two days in the attic of their home while waiting for the hurricane.

Then in a hotel room, they shared their shelter with thirty other people for several days, before heading to the port of Grand Abaco. For reasons of sanitary security and because the situation was becoming unsustainable, Keisha wanted to leave the island as soon as possible, without knowing what was waiting for him.

" I'm still in shock with everything that happened and I wonder what I'm going to do. It's pretty scary because you do not know where you're going after and they do not tell you what's going to happen, where you'll stay, says the young woman. There are a lot of people here and even more are coming, it's terrible, because I have nowhere else to go. Nowhere .

Join the United States

" I'm trying to look to the future, I have to live somewhere else, before I can go home, but it will not be right away because where I live, there's nothing nothing, everything is demolished, "she continues.

Air and boat connections are provided, but once arrived in the capital Nassau, these survivors are often clueless and without resources.

Like many Bahamians evacuated from Abaco, Keisha has shown great courage and resilience, but she is impatient and hopes to leave the Bahamas to join family in the United States as soon as possible.
