Big fire in Luleå under control

The alarm came at 20.30 on Saturday evening and then it burned too full in a room on Batterivägen with a pizzeria, an oriental grocery store and a workshop room. And the emergency services quickly made an orientation decision.

- When we got to the site, we saw that the fire had already penetrated the roof of the building and we decided to let it burn down and save the surrounding operations instead, says response manager Ronny Lindberg.

With regard to the car repair shop and car paint, the situation was critical for a period.

- The fire was about to spread there and the wind was also in that direction, but we had quite good resources so we managed to clear the other premises and limit the fire.

The rescue services plan thus worked and at midnight, night to Sunday, SOS Alrm assumed that the danger was over.

- Of course, it is very sad that a whole business is now in ruins, but our plan succeeded and we must still be satisfied, says Ronny Lindgren.

On Sunday, the emergency services continued to monitor and extinguish the wildfire and the stinging fire smoke was still heavy over the area.

- We have had staff here on site throughout the night to monitor the fire. There is still quite a lot going on from the ruins and we will keep the staff here to reduce the smoke and ensure that the adjacent operations can start their operations on Monday without excessive disturbance, says Ronny Lindberg.

The fire should have started in the pizzeria, but the cause of the fire is unclear and should now be investigated. However, the police have routinely initiated a preliminary investigation with the heading of dangerous destruction.
