The fire station in Norrtälje is one of the country's so-called life jackets coordinated by the Swedish Life Rescue Society. Anyone can come here to borrow a life jacket for free for a maximum of four days.

- By lending life jackets free of charge, we want to be part of and minimize the number of drowning accidents, says Malin Carlsson, who is a fire engineer at Norrtälje fire defense.

tripling

Norrtälje Fire Station has lent life jackets since 2015, and this year the number of loaned vests has tripled to a hundred compared to last year.

- We believe that those who borrow from us would otherwise have gone out on the lake without a life jacket, or they would have chosen to stay ashore instead and missed a day in our fantastic archipelago, says Malin Carlsson.

Life jackets for dogs

After the success of life jackets, the rescue service in Norrtälje is now considering expanding its operations and starting to lend more types of safety equipment.

- We want to develop this and are thinking of starting to lend life jackets to dogs, for example. We have also been thinking about starting to lend car seats. It is a great service for our residents, says Malin Carlsson.
