An Egyptian official announced on Saturday the death of a scientist at the official nuclear watchdog, while attending an international conference in Morocco, pointing out that there is interest at the highest level to find out the cause of death.

This comes as an affirmation of the Moroccan newspapers reported on Friday the death of Abu Bakr Abdel Moneim Ramadan, who is the head of the national network of the Observatory of Radio Nuclear and Radiological Control in Egypt.

Sami Shaaban, head of the Nuclear and Radiological Control Authority, said that there is interest at the highest level to follow up the details of the death of the Egyptian scientist last Wednesday in the Moroccan city of Marrakech.

The Egyptian Foreign Ministry and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) are following up with the Moroccan authorities and the Egyptian embassy in Rabat, he said.

He stressed that until the moment no one knows the cause of death. He revealed that the Egyptian scientist was participating in the activities of a workshop organized by the International Atomic Energy Agency in Morocco, calling for not anticipating investigations that will reveal in detail the causes of the real death.

According to Moroccan media, the public prosecutor in Marrakech on Friday ordered the autopsy of the body of the world Ramadan, after he died in circumstances described as mysterious.

She pointed out that the Egyptian scientist mentioned in his sixth decade, and was staying in a hotel in the city to attend the work of a scientific symposium before he died in mysterious circumstances.

She explained that the security authorities have begun investigations into the death, and awaiting the issuance of the forensic report.

Moroccan media said the Egyptian scientist had earlier been tasked with studying the possible effects of the nuclear reactors in Dimona, Israel and Bushehr in Iran, which was not addressed by the Egyptian official.
