The idea of the café is simple: New Arvikabor help elderly people with various IT issues.

"The most common questions are about social media, tablets, e-mail, banking questions and smart phones," says Ulrika Svensson, library manager at Arvika library.

theme nights

Now the autumn round of the cafe starts again and since the interest has been so good, in addition to Saturdays will also be open every other Wednesday. You will also have theme nights and immerse yourself in areas where you have been given extra questions.

The young people have developed the language

IT guide Arvika is a Leader project within Växtlust Värmland with support from the Social Fund. It is also an integration project and for the newly arrived high school youth, who have all undergone a special education, the project has been successful.

- We see that these young people have grown a lot. They feel safer in answering questions and in the Swedish language - so it has been very successful.

Difficult with the new technology

The project is found in several places in Sweden but in Värmland only in Arvika. And the library manager is wondering why the idea has been so successful.

- The average age of our café visitors is 76 years. I think many older people now have technology, but there are big gaps in how to use the technology. You feel insecure and dare not try, says Ulrika Svensson.

The EU-funded café project is currently running until Christmas.
