The Gulf Court of Ras Al Khaimah has sentenced a young Gulf man accused of missing periodic examinations to ensure that he does not return to drug use - in absentia - to one year in prison, but objected to his sentence before the same court.

In detail, according to the indictment of the Public Prosecution that the defendant was absent from the scheduled date to the police station, to give a sample of his urine to the competent authorities, despite signing a commitment to attend.

During his testimony, the accused stated that he was imprisoned at the end of last year for nine months in connection with a substance abuse case and, upon his release from prison, signed a pledge at a police station in Ras Al Khaimah to attend and conduct periodic examinations.

He explained that the main reason for his absence, was to enter the prison in a separate case, pointing out that upon his release from prison went to the police station for the examination, but he was surprised to transfer his case to court.

He added that he did not violate the laws and that he did not receive the examination schedule from the police station upon his release from prison, and that his mobile phone was disconnected because he was not used because he was imprisoned pending the first case.

He explained that he had no intention of not following the history of aftercare, or violating the rules of procedure, and asked the court to consider his social status, as he was married with children.

The court explained that the failure or absentee of the accused to conduct a regular examination of the urine sample, punishable by one year imprisonment, in accordance with the law, and if he refuses to give the sample to the competent authorities, it is punishable by two years imprisonment in accordance with the law.

The court set this morning a verdict.
