Dorian finally made landfall in North Carolina this Friday, after having had the inhabitants of the East Coast of the United States in suspense for a week. The hurricane struck early in the morning at Cape Hatteras, while in Bahamas the official balance of the deceased continues to grow as aid arrives at the two islands razed on Sunday by the cyclone.

The Government of Bahamas announced that so far they have been able to confirm the death of 30 people, although they acknowledge that the number of victims will continue to increase in the coming days. The Prime Minister, Hubert Minnis, traveled Friday to the Abaco Island, where he offered free flights to evacuate those affected by the hurricane who want to leave the islands.

Local media such as 'Bahamas Press' have been showing images of bodies floating in the water and piles of lifeless bodies abandoned on the roadsides and other wooded areas of the Abaco Island for days. A dantesque panorama, with half island almost flooded and an unprecedented destruction of houses, which is also being seen in Grand Bahama.

The general director of the Ministry of Tourism of the Bahamas, Joy Jibrilu, warned Thursday in an interview with the CNN channel that there are still "hundreds if not thousands of people" who remain missing since the hurricane. While the Minister of Health, Duane Sands, asked the population to prepare to receive "information impossible to imagine" about the number of deaths and the suffering of the people.

Up to the island of Abaco and Grand Bahama, hundreds of plastic bags and refrigeration chambers have started arriving to store the bodies of the victims, according to the Minister of Health explained to a local radio station, adding that there are already in the area four forensic teams working day and night to embalm the bodies. "The numbers are going to be impressive, Sands warned.

Meanwhile, the UN announced an urgent departure of one million dollars from its emergency fund to support rescue efforts after verifying on the ground the "catastrophe" that Dorian has left in the Bahamas. For its part, the World Food Program (WFP) will also send eight tons of food for the nearly 76,000 people who estimate they will need help and food.

After a week of uncertainty about the place where the hurricane would eventually hit the east coast of the United States, Dorian made landfall this early Friday morning at Cape Hatteras, on the coast of North Carolina, turned into a hurricane category one with maximum sustained winds of 144 kilometers per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center (CNH),

President Donald Trump has already spoken on the phone with the governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper, and made available to that state all the help that is needed from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support the tasks of reconstruction after the damages caused by Dorian, that continues its course towards the north with heavy rains and hurricane winds.
