Denmark has announced talks on an international mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz following Iranian threats to the shipping lane.

Denmark is in dialogue with a number of European countries on how to organize such a force, said Prime Minister Mitte Frederikson in a press statement. "We are studying the possibility of Danish naval participation in the international effort led by Europe. "We are in dialogue with a number of European countries on how to organize this endeavor."

The US Central Command said in early August, it is working to develop a multinational naval operation, to increase surveillance and security in the main waterways in the Middle East and ensure freedom of navigation.

Britain also announced it would join a US-led naval security mission in the Persian Gulf to protect merchant ships crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
