Turkish Vice President Fuad Oktay said his country was not in a position to host more asylum seekers in the event of an influx from Syria's Idlib province, and "Europe must understand that."

This came in statements made by the Turkish Vice President on Friday to the channel "Bloomberg" US, on the sidelines of his participation in the forum "Ambrosetti" its 45th edition in the city of Cernobbio, northern Italy.

Asked if there was a new wave of immigration from the Syrian side, Oktay said: "Unfortunately, yes, but in Turkey we are making great efforts to establish peace in the region."

He explained that there is a safe area free of terrorists in Idlib was established for the sake of civilians through talks with Iran and Russia within the course of the Astana and then Sochi, but the Syrian regime attacks in the region caused the death of a large number of civilians.

He pointed out that Europe focused heavily on its problems and forgot the refugee crisis, and that its foreign fighters in the region are its main problem.

"Europe should understand that Turkey is not in a position to host more asylum seekers in the event of an influx from Idlib."

Oktay stressed that Europe must confront this danger, and Turkey is unable to bear this burden on its own.
