Prime Minister Abe to the Japan-Russia Summit

Prime Minister Abe, visiting the Russian Far East, will have a summit meeting with President Putin. While the Russian side has not lost a strong stance over the Northern Territories issue, I would like to confirm further concreteization of joint economic activities on the Northern Four Islands and lead to the progress of negotiations.

Prime Minister Abe, visiting Vladivostok in the Russian Far East, met individually with Prime Minister Modi of India and President Butorga of Mongolia on the morning of 5th before attending the International Economic Forum. And we are going to face a Japan-Russia summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The two leaders' meetings are the 27th since June, and it is expected that opinions will be exchanged over peace treaty negotiations including the Northern Territories issue and joint economic activities on the northern islands.

Of these, in the Northern Territories issue, the agreement was promoted at the summit meeting in June, but at the administrative level, the stagnation continued. Has not broken down.

As Prime Minister Abe, at this meeting, he hopes to confirm further realization of joint economic activities, such as pilot sightseeing tours and traffic of specialists in garbage disposal, and lead to progress in negotiations.

Prior to this, Foreign Minister Kono, who was accompanied by Prime Minister Abe, met with Russian Minister Oreshkin Economic Development and confirmed the progress of the eight economic cooperation plans including industrial development and energy development. Within the year, they agreed to hold a committee to discuss trade and economy.
