- We may not buy spirits to our children, but we are happy to cut their breasts, that is the proportions of this, says Jannika Häggström.

She is one of the 17 parents who wrote on the DN debate this week. The parent group believes that health care focuses far too much on surgical procedures and hormones when young people seek help for gender dysphoria.

Parents' demands on health care

In the debate post, parents have pointed out similarities they see among their teens who feel that they were born in the wrong sex. Among other things, they see that none of the children expressed in childhood earlier in their doubts about their gender identity. Most are girls and gender dysphoria has come in close connection with other mental illnesses such as anxiety, trauma, depression or eating disorders and that many have diagnoses in the autism spectrum.

The parents are of the opinion that health care today is not evidence-based but is more based on experimental measures.
