According to the South China Morning Post, Lam said this during a televised address to residents of the city.

“First, the government will officially withdraw the bill to completely dispel public fears,” she said.

Along with this, Lam added that she and senior city officials intend to begin a direct dialogue with people in order to stabilize the situation.

Earlier media outlets announced Lam’s intention to abandon the rioting amendments.

On August 27, the Chinese Foreign Ministry protested over statements by G7 countries about the protests in Hong Kong.
