Britain supported Hong Kong's refusal to amend extradition law


The UK welcomes the decision of the Hong Kong authorities to refuse to amend the law on extradition of citizens to mainland China, the consideration of which caused massive protests, the British Foreign Ministry said.

“These are the long-awaited steps to build confidence. I hope they will lead to a meaningful dialogue between the Hong Kong government and the people it serves, ”UK Foreign Minister quoted Dominic Raab quoting on Twitter.

Earlier, the head of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam, announced a government decision to withdraw consideration of amendments to the extradition law and begin a direct dialogue with citizens to stabilize the situation in the country.

At the same time, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi called the current situation in Hong Kong the most serious problem since the transfer of the PRC region.
