A "like" in social media can trigger a dopamine party in your brain, but in the same way, a post without the likes can be seen as both a stressful and sad experience. Users who did not think their pictures received enough visible appreciation immediately removed them for fear of their friends seeing "how little liked" they were.

This felt Instagram was a problem, and that is why they in seven countries are testing to hide exactly how many likes that posts generate.

"Exploring methods and ways to reduce the press on Instagram is something we always think about," said a spokesperson for the social media company.

Facebook: The feature is not live yet

And Facebook, which owns Instagram, now confirms to the Techcrunch site that they will perform the same type of test. So far, the changed functionality is only in the development phase.

The total amount of likes should be hidden from others, but you should see if mutual friends are littered with their blue thumbs.

Hong Kong-based tech blogger Jane Manchun Wong, who first discovered hidden likes on Instagram, is the one who once again discovered the test on an Android Facebook prototype.

It is still unclear when, and where, the likes will disappear on Facebook.
