“When the United States banned everyone from buying Iranian oil and forbade making any transfers in dollars as payment for goods delivered from Iran, the vast majority of countries, companies, first of all, were in a very difficult situation,” Lavrov said during a speech at MGIMO on the occasion of the beginning of the new school year.

The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry recalled that many countries depend on the dollar, so such steps by the United States undermine confidence in this international currency.

“They depend on the American market, depend on the dollar, which, due to such actions, is losing its reputation in the eyes of the world community. And Washington, of course, undermined the position of the dollar as the world’s payment currency by its decisions not only on Iran, but also by other sanctions, ”the minister said.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif announced his readiness to sell oil to all countries.

On August 20, the United States called on other countries to restrict the passage of Iranian oil tankers through their territorial waters and prohibit them from entering foreign ports.

Subsequently, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced the effectiveness of these measures to reduce the export of Iranian oil.
