02 September 2019The Florence Public Prosecutor's Office requested the indictment for Giorgio Galanti, a doctor investigated in the investigation into the death of Fiorentina footballer Davide Astori, found dead in his hotel room in Udine on 4 March 2018. Galanti, defended by lawyer Sigfrido Fenyes, he is accused of manslaughter.

The preliminary hearing will be held on October 22nd before the judge of the Court of Florence Angelo Antonio Pezzuti. Galanti had signed Astori's sports qualifications, as director of the regional reference center for sports medicine at Careggi.

In addition to Galanti, Francesco Stagno, a sports medicine doctor from Cagliari, is under investigation, but his position should be removed. At the moment there is no decision by the prosecutor's office in Florence regarding Stagno which in June was questioned by the prosecutor Nastasi. Stagno, defended by the lawyer Andrea Puccio, had presented to the interrogation the reports of his consultants, in particular a cardiological report and a medical-legal expert report. At the moment Stagno has not received any notification of a preliminary hearing date

Astori, who died of a heart attack at the age of 31, had played in the rossoblu before joining Fiorentina. He was found dead on 4 March 2018 in Udine in the hotel room where he was in training with the viola team. According to the prosecutor's office, the purple captain died from the failure to diagnose a heart condition that was such as to prevent him from playing football. According to the prosecutor, the diagnosis was not made because there were no tests that could reveal the onset of the disease
