World No. 3 Karolina Pliskova was eliminated on Sunday in the round of 16 of the US Open by the Briton Johanna Konta (16th) 6-7 (1/7), 6-3, 7-5.
Konta, who had never passed the last 16 in Flushing Meadows, will face in the quarter the Ukrainian Elina Svitolina (5th) or the American Madison Keys (10th).
"Climbing one more step is a huge success for me!", She told the audience.
The 28-year-old Briton has already reached the semifinals in Grand Slam semifinals three times, Australia in 2016, Wimbledon in 2017 and Roland-Garros this year.
But at Flushing Meadows, she had never reached the quarterfinals, being beaten in 8s twice (2015, 2016).
