The AFD in Saxony increased by 17.8 per cent according to the first polling poll, more than doubling. But Merkel's CDU managed to keep the lead as the largest party with 33.5 percent, which is more than recent opinion polls have shown. They also manage to keep the AFD out of the local government in Saxony, which CDU learns to consider as a win.

In Brandenburg, AFD lands at 24.5 percent, which is an increase of 12.3 percent. This makes them twice as large in the regions as they are at the national level.

The Social Democrats lost in both states but grew larger than the AFD in Brandenburg and will continue to be able to rule in the state parliament without the AFD.
