Coming to the Venice Film Festival, Olivier Assayas's film "Cuban Network", on the true story of a Cuban spies network in Miami, the Spanish actress Penélope Cruz said Sunday regret the lack of freedom of expression in Cuba at a press conference.

"I do not feel great freedom when it comes to talking and saying how they feel," said the Spanish actress, interviewed on Cuba, where much of the filming took place.

"It's something that worries me, because I believe that in 2019, people should feel free to speak, all over the world," she continued.

The actress, who plays the wife of a spy in this film, competing for the Golden Lion, also said that during his stay, he found the Cubans "wonderful". "They really have a big heart, values, humility," she added.

"Cuban Network" ("Wasp Network" in English), in which she plays alongside Edgar Ramirez and Gael Garcia Bernal, tells in thriller form the true story of a group of five Cuban spies settled in Miami ( United States) in the early 1990s.

They set up an espionage network, with the mission of infiltrating anti-Castro groups responsible for attacks on the island, before being arrested and imprisoned in the United States.

Asked also about the filming in Cuba, the French director Olivier Assayas stressed that they had been "completely free to do what they wanted", but that he "would not say that they were not spied on ".

"We have been watched," continued the director of "Carlos" and "Sils Maria". "But there was no impact on the film, they were true to their word, which means we did the film we wanted to do."
