Katie Zaferes of the United States won the world triathlon title in Lausanne on Saturday, thanks to her victory on the shores of Lake Geneva, succeeding the British Vicky Holland in the winners of the World Series Olympic distance (WTS).

Third in the WTS in 2017 and 2nd in 2018, Zaferes won four races early in the season, but had two cycling falls during the Hamburg stage and the Tokyo test event, with 23 stitches in Japan.

Saturday in Lausanne, Zaferes scored his fifth victory, on six races taken into account for the final ranking of the WTS. She beat Britain's Jessica Learmonth and Georgia Taylor-Brown.

Cassandre Beaugrand finished best French of the race, 17th, just in front of Léonie Périault (19th). Sandra Dodet took 29th place.
