"Often it is about old fires that have recovered," says Stefan Hagdahl, internal commander of the Rescue Service Östergötland.

Thunderstorms and lightning strikes earlier this week could also be a cause of today's fires. Generally, it is not as dry as in summer, but it can differ very locally. In some places in forest and land, it is still extremely dry.

It started about a quarter past 12 with a fire of about half a hectare in Kvädö nature reserve. The reserve is located in Valdemarsvik municipality but out to the coast.

Only ten minutes later, a fire was alerted in Nylingstorp, about three kilometers east of the village of Kalbo, which in turn lies outside Rejmyre. The caller and alarm told us that there was heavy smoke and smelled of forest fire.

A moment after half-past, a fire was discovered near Stegeborg, but on the northern side of Slätbaken in Norrkrog's nature reserve. The fire covered an area of three times ten meters.

At two o'clock, a fire of five times five meters was discovered on a caldera just over five kilometers south of Söderköping.

The fifth fire broke out about six kilometers east of Hällestad in the municipality of Finspång at 2.30 pm on Saturday afternoon.

At three o'clock, a grass fire was alerted a little north of the E4 outside Mjölby.
