August 31, 2019 34 migrants are still aboard the Ionian Sea off Lampedusa. The ship of the Mediterranean Saving Human NGO has asked to be able to enter the port because of "the risk of hygienic-sanitary emergency" because for 40 hours on board the water is missing. Meanwhile, Open Arms has announced that the GIP of Agrigento has ordered the release of seizure of the ship after having 'collected the necessary elements for the continuation of the investigation against unknown persons for abuse of office and kidnapping'.

On Friday an inspection of the doctors of the Ministry of Health was carried out to check the health of the people on board. Mediterranea Saving Humans yesterday launched the health and hygiene alert. The ship is located 13 miles from Lampedusa, at the limit of territorial waters.

"Here Ionian Sea: it is the third day that we are stuck in the sea. We are more and more worried about the psychological conditions of the survivors, the twenty-eight men and the six women who stayed on board with us. They have already gone through hell: how much they can still hold, stuck in the middle of the sea? ", writes Mediterranea Saving Humans on his Facebook page, about the situation on the ship.

New rescue at sea
Meanwhile, there was a new rescue at sea by the crew of Alan Kurdi, who rescued a small overloaded wooden boat with 13 people, including 8 minors, trying to reach Lampedusa. The intervention took place in the Sar Maltese area. The NGO Sea Eye writes on Twitter:
