The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai today opened the third and fourth phases of the road network development project leading to Expo 2020, which included the development of two interchanges of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street with both Expo and Al Laylas streets, in addition to the development of two bridges on Sheikh Zayed Road. Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan in the Dubai Investment Park area, and the expansion of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from two lanes in each direction to five lanes in each direction.The total length of bridges in the two phases was five kilometers, while the length of roads reached 17 kilometers, at a cost of one billion and 300 million. The implementation of the project comes in line with the directives of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, in the immediate commencement of the implementation of road projects and related transportation systems, to meet the requirements of the Emirate of Dubai to host Expo 2020, to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, which serves Visitors to the exhibition and future projects in the region.

Matar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA Board of Directors, said: “The road network development leading to the Expo is one of the largest road projects currently being implemented by RTA to meet the requirements of Dubai to host Expo 2020. To six phases, to complete all work within the specified time period, well before the opening of the Expo ».

He pointed out that the third phase of the project provides free traffic between Expo and Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan streets, where the conversion of the light-controlled rotor to a bridge intersection increases the capacity from 2000 vehicles per hour to 4500 vehicles per hour east and west on the road. The third phase also provides direct traffic to the Expo westward on Expo Road, and additional traffic capacity from Expo towards Expo and Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan streets.

He added: «The fourth phase of the project provides free traffic between Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Al Laylis streets, and the conversion of the light-controlled roundabout to a bridge intersection, increase the capacity of the street from 3000 vehicles per hour to 10,000 vehicles per hour east and west On Al Lailis Street, it provides better traffic to the Expo and to the Jafza area towards Emirates Road via Al Lailis Street. ”

He continued: «The total length of the bridges carried out in the third phase of approximately three kilometers, while the length of roads is six kilometers and a half kilometers, and this phase of the project included the development of the intersection of Expo Street with Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and converted into a bridge intersection provides free movement in Different trends.

Al Tayer explained that «these links will provide entry to the Expo 2020, the project includes the development of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street towards Al Maktoum International Airport from a new road».

He pointed out that the fourth phase of the project includes the development of three intersections and the expansion of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from two lanes in each direction, to five lanes in each direction length of four kilometers and 600 meters, where the intersection of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street "Alleys and turning it into a bridge intersection provides free traffic in various directions."

Service road

Matar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), said: “The project also includes the construction of a service road with a capacity of two lanes in each direction on Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan and Al Laylas, as well as developing the entrances of the Dubai Investment Park.” The length of the bridges to be implemented in the fourth phase is two kilometers, while the roads are 10 kilometers and 300 meters long.
