Crime reporting concerns general carelessness and was established after the fire. The preliminary investigation is led by prosecutors who have decided on further investigative measures.

"It is about fact checking and further interrogation," prosecutor Erik Gunneland Dahlbäck told SVT News Öst.

Large area was extinguished

It was at the end of April that a forest fire caught fire at Tjällmo, north of Motala. The rescue services conducted intensive extinguishing work, and the defense helicopters helped to bomb the 300 hectares of forest that was set on fire.

The rescue service also received help from the Home Guard and helicopters from MSB. Nevertheless, it took several days before the fire was under control. Motala Municipality prepared to evacuate residents in the area and police blocked off roads around the fire.

Sparks may have caused the fire

Shortly before the fire broke out, forests in the area were felled. Police suspect that sparks have arisen in connection with the logging that started the fire.

For the prosecutor, it is now necessary to investigate whether it is possible to show that the suspected person showed negligence in the felling, or whether it was a mere accident.

- You must also be able to prove that the person may have been negligent and caused the fire itself, says Erik Gunneland Dahlbäck.

Next week, the prosecutor is expected to make a decision on whether to suspect the suspect.
