The alarm came just after half past six in the morning. A sailboat that was at the quay in Nävekvarn had started to burn.

Rescue services, Coast Guard and Sea Rescue arrived, but the boat could not be saved and now the boat has sunk.

Risk of diesel emissions

It is about a 12 meter long sailboat.

"The boat contains about 200 liters of diesel and we do not want it to come out," says Kalle Isaksson, on-duty commander of the Coast Guard.

This has meant that the Coast Guard has now started an environmental operation. Since it is state water, it is the task of the Coast Guard to try to reduce the risk of environmental damage.

Divers to the place

At lunchtime, the Coast Guard's divers will go down to the boat and try to seal off the diesel tank's vent so that the diesel can not leak. Some diesel fuel has already leaked, but the Coast Guard is putting in leaks to stop the spread. The assessment on Saturday morning is that the oil has not been able to spread over a larger area. For safety, the Coast Guard's aircraft at Skavsta will check from the air if there has been any dispersal.
