Four new cases have been added in recent hours to the number of people affected by the consumption of contaminated meat manufactured by the Magrudis de Sevilla company, which keeps 69 people hospitalized in Andalusia, two more than yesterday Friday.

According to the information provided this Saturday by the Ministry of Health and Families , of the patients admitted to public and private hospitals, 28 are pregnant women who are receiving treatment and three remain in the ICU.

Of the four new cases of infection, two are abortions (which were reported yesterday Friday), another is a newborn with infection and the fourth an immunosuppressed patient who is receiving antibiotic treatment, all in the province of Seville.

The two abortions in Seville registered on Friday occurred in weeks 8 and 32 of gestation. The women who lost their babies remained admitted to the Virgen Macarena and Virgen del Rocío hospitals.

Most of it is in Seville (53), followed by Huelva (9), Málaga (3), Cádiz (3) and Granada (1), while in the rest of the Andalusian provinces there are no patients admitted.

The Ministry thus figures in 201 cases confirmed since the start of the alert, decreed on August 15.

The distribution by provinces shows that the outbreak is concentrated in the province of Seville, with 166 confirmed cases (82.5% of the total), followed by Huelva (17), Cádiz (10), Granada (4) and Málaga (4 ).

The spokesman of the Technical Cabinet for monitoring the outbreak, José Miguel Cisneros , said that the data of recent days confirm that there has been "an inflection of the outbreak, but the outbreak is not over."

"What is expected now is that there are rare cases that may last until October included, which will mainly affect the population at risk : pregnant women, immunosuppressed patients, with chronic diseases and the elderly," adds the Ministry.

"MAXIMUM HAPPINESS"

The Minister of Health and Families, the doctor on leave Jesús Aguirre (PP), defended this Friday in the Andalusian Parliament that the Andalusian Board has acted with the "maximum speed" in the health crisis caused by consumption of contaminated meat from the meat La Mechá brand and "came forward" in three days to the official confirmation of the municipal laboratory, which, he said, occurred on August 17.

The Board, with an interim but not definitive report, asked the City Council of Seville on the 14th to inspect the Magrudis factory and to paralyze the manufacture of the meatloaf, according to the information conveyed by the counselor.

Despite criticism from the opposition, the Minister of Health defends that the Andalusian Administration "has not failed to make decisions" and the effects of the listeriosis outbreak "have not been as devastating as they could have been."

During an extraordinary parliamentary commission appearance to report on the listeria outbreak, the counselor explained that the 201 intoxicated consumed mecha meat from the Mecha brand, although two other products produced by the Magrudis company also tested positive for Listeria in the analysis.

On the other hand, the sample of Magrudis meatloaf that was taken on August 13 in a restaurant in the Sevillian town of La Rinconada reflected a "spectacular" growth of the Listeria: "Never had a Petri dish with so many colonies of the bacteria, " said the Health adviser.

The general director of Public Health of the Board "was scared" when he saw a photo of that sample and therefore the health alert was decreed, he added.

PRIVATE ACKNOWLEDGMENT

The counselor has announced that if the Prosecutor's Office appreciates evidence of crime in the actions of Magrudis , the company responsible for the listeriosis outbreak, the Board will exercise the particular accusation to "defend the interests of the families of the deceased, the pregnant women who have lost their babies and all those affected. "

ASK FOR THE DIRECTOR'S DIMISION

Both the PSOE and Adelante Andalucía demanded this Friday in Parliament the resignation of the Minister of Health. "Go home and take your gang of failed friends" who now work in the Ministry of Health, has launched the spokesperson for the PSOE, Jesús María Ruiz, who has censored the "bungling" counselor management in the health crisis caused by the listeriosis outbreak.

The spokeswoman for Adelante Andalucía, Immaculate Nieto, has also considered that the counselor Aguirre should "leave" and resign because his management has not been adequate during the health alert.

For Vox spokesman Alejandro Hernández, "things have been done badly and some head will have to fall" , but he does not think it should be that of the adviser Aguirre.
