Student Shaima Omar Al Junaid, who is studying Bachelor of Environment, Health and Safety at Abu Dhabi University, has carried out a research project in which she produced an organic healer extracted from beehives «hand-free of any chemicals», which eliminates 100% of the office germs, and is characterized by being safe. It contributes to the provision of a safe environment for employees, and won the second place in the competition «Science we think».
Al-Junaid said: “After several experiments and researches in the lab, my main dependence on this processor was on propolis oil. It eliminates all bacteria except Salmonella and Escherichia coli bacteria, so I added grapefruit oil and some other organic oils. The end result showed 100% bacterial elimination according to laboratory results, and after repeated trials several times, and to make sure that it is practical and can be used I added lavender oil to add a fragrant smell ».
She explained, «Emirates Today» that propolis oil, is the main ingredient in the natural cleanser, and is a sticky material collected by bees from flowers and used as a mortar in the formation of wax tablets, and is an effective antimicrobial and fungi, which consists of volatile oils, and a lot of vitamins and salts Mineral and amino acids, pointing out that the country has a large number of beekeeping farms, often used honey and leave beehives, and by extracting propolis oil from hives we can contribute to reduce waste and turn it into economic value.
