The couple has had a child since before and knew where to go. When they arrived at BB, Dad Wael Sawan was stressed and tried in vain to push the various buttons outside the entrance, but did not see the maternity ward's phone button that sat on the other side of the entrance behind a garbage can.

- I started to push the door and honked the car. No one answered, says Wael Sawan.

He feeds

It was the middle of the night and the entrance was locked. Wael got in touch with childbirth staff by phone, but no one came down and opened. He panicked at the emergency room instead, but the midwife on the phone asked him to go back to the BB entrance.

- I screamed to my husband “The baby is coming! The baby comes in the car! ”Says Lujain, who then had to give birth to his child in the parking lot before staff finally came out and took over.

- I was very scared, says mother Lujain Mohammad Jaber. Photo: SVT

Camera at the entrance

An midwife working on childbirth tells SVT Nyheter Värmland that the entrance is locked at night so that unauthorized persons cannot enter, and that patients may press a button to make contact with the staff.

The bell sounds like an alarm on the entire department and the staff then look in the entrance camera to see who is calling.

To be investigated

Exactly what has happened, the area manager for inpatient care, Petra Svedberg, cannot answer. Region Värmland will do an event analysis to see if a Lex Maria notification needs to be done.

- There we will look at all kinds of causes. Both on the entire course of care, on the calls, why the staff did not come down. We look at all the parts, says Petra Svedberg.
